With Taka 200,000 we are able to procure/purchase 1000 pieces of Blankets (one colour) at the rate Taka 200 per piece from Dhaka.

These blankets would be transported to Rangpur by hired truck and will be locally carried to Pirganj as well as to different spots of 15 union. For this we need minimum extra Taka 5,000.

Our local partner NGO called PUS (Paribar Unnyan Sangastha) is very much indigenous and working on water and sanitation in Pirganj area. They have already identified poor people who needs warm clothes/blankets and have paid volonteer working in 15 unions. PUS would provide manpower at the free of costs to distribute blankets. Objective:
To protect children of North Bangladesh from cold wave

Why this project:
The temperature is getting down below 5 degree Celsius in the northern part of the country in January 2003. Some people are dying regularly from the extreme cold wave from December 2002. The Govt. of Bangladesh and some development organization have taken programme to distribute winter clothes in the meantime. We are also wandering to take a project for distributing winter clothes among the children basically who don't have proper shelter and clothes to protect themselves. So this is our opportunity to work with the proposal given by Drishtipat for protecting some of the children from this severe cold wave.

Where the clothes will be distributed:
These clothes will be distributed among the children of Rangpur and Kurigram, the northern part of the country. Child Brigade has it's own contacts there.

How the cloths will be distributed:
The warm clothes will be purchased from the stock lot of local garments including sweater, cap, trouser and socks. Child Brigade will distribute all the clothes among the children by the help of some local NGOs. Every selected children of the community or slum will get a set of clothes including one sweater, one cap, one trouser and one pair of socks.

Selection process:
The local NGO will make a list of the children from the slum and also the street children who are affected mostly in this cold wave by random sampling.

Age group:
The age group of the children is 4 to 16.

Total number of the children:
The clothes will be distributed among the 500 children.

Time frame:
Project duration: 28 January to 11 February 2003
The distribution will end by one week from the receiving of the money.

Financial Management:

Child Brigade is a street children's organization and does not have a bank account. For proper financial management, the total amount will be transferred to the Bank account of Save the Children Sweden working in Bangladesh. Child Brigade is a partner of Save the Children Sweden and partially financially supported by them. The bank account is Save the Children Sweden:


Reporting:

Child Brigade will prepare a brief report with photographs on the process of the distribution. It will contain the process of selection and negotiation with the garments factory for collection of the clothes, contacting and negotiation with local organizations people in Kurigram and Rangpur, contacting and selection process of the children to receive the clothes, arrangements made for the distribution, the distribution process itself, comments from the children and community. Child Brigade will also try to involve and interact with the local community, community leaders and the local media for future linkages on similar or other issues to work on in these two districts. The report will also contain the financial report according to the agreed budget.

Ayoti

Ayoti is Bogra based NGO organization. Already obtained 100 sweaters (each 60.00 taka) and one hundred twin size blankets (each 220.00 taka). They bought them new from a Garment Factory in Dhaka with fairly good price. Total cost is about 30,000.00 taka. They are going to distribute them tonight (Bangladesh time) to the destitde. This will done through AYOTI under the Banner of - "DRISTIPATH: Ektu Ushnotar Jonya".

They plan to obtain another 100 sweaters and 100 blankets tomorrw. Total expense thus will be about 60,000.00 takas.

They will get the following for records:

1) Name/ address (some will have no address at all) / signature or thumb impression.
2) Pictures
3) They are expecting some press coverage also.
